Bill Gross

Bill Gross, born William Hunt Gross on April 13, 1944, is an American investor, financial manager, philanthropist, and entrepreneur. He is best known as the co-founder and former Chief Investment Officer of PIMCO (Pacific Investment Management Company), one of the world's largest fixed-income investment management firms. Gross is widely recognized for his expertise in bond investing and has been referred to as the "Bond King" for his impressive track record and influence in the fixed-income markets.

Gross was born in Middletown, Ohio, and later moved to California. He attended Duke University, where he earned a Bachelor's degree in Psychology in 1966. After graduation, he served in the U.S. Navy, including a deployment to Vietnam. Upon completing his military service, Gross went on to earn an MBA from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) in 1971.

In 1971, Bill Gross, along with Jim Muzzy and Bill Podlich, founded PIMCO in Newport Beach, California. Gross played a pivotal role in shaping the firm's investment strategies and building its reputation as a leading fixed-income manager. Under his leadership, PIMCO grew rapidly, attracting billions of dollars in assets and expanding its global presence.

As PIMCO's Chief Investment Officer, Gross managed the PIMCO Total Return Fund, which became one of the world's largest bond funds under his supervision. He was known for his active management style, combining macroeconomic analysis with a bottom-up approach to bond selection. Gross's investment philosophy emphasized the importance of understanding global economic trends, interest rate movements, and market inefficiencies to inform investment decisions.

In September 2014, Bill Gross left PIMCO to join Janus Capital Group (now Janus Henderson), a rival investment management firm. At Janus Henderson, Gross managed the Janus Henderson Global Unconstrained Bond Fund until his retirement in March 2019.

He and his ex-wife Sue Gross have donated millions of dollars to various charitable organizations and causes, focusing on education, healthcare, and poverty alleviation.
