The CEO of Philip Morris International (PMI) was André Calantzopoulos. He had been serving as the CEO of the company since May 2013, succeeding Louis C. Camilleri.
André Calantzopoulos has been with PMI for more than three decades, holding various leadership positions within the company. He joined the company in 1985 as a Business Development Analyst and later served in key roles such as Director of Business Development and Planning, President of the Eastern Europe, Middle East, and Africa Region, and President of the European Union Region.
Before becoming the CEO, Calantzopoulos served as PMI's Chief Operating Officer, where he was responsible for the company's global operations, including commercial, manufacturing, and corporate functions. Under his leadership, PMI has expanded its global footprint, diversified its product offerings, and pursued various strategic initiatives.
As CEO, André Calantzopoulos has been instrumental in driving PMI's transformation toward a smoke-free future. He has been a strong advocate for developing and promoting reduced-risk alternatives to combustible cigarettes, such as the company's flagship heated tobacco product, IQOS. Calantzopoulos is committed to establishing PMI as a leader in the development and commercialization of scientifically substantiated smoke-free products.
Calantzopoulos holds a degree in Electrical Engineering from Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne and a Master of Business Administration degree from INSEAD in France. He is actively involved in various industry organizations and serves on the board of directors for the Eliminate Child Labour in Tobacco Foundation and the Swiss-American Chamber of Commerce.
