Mark Sutton

Mark Sutton is an American business executive who has served as the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of International Paper, a leading global producer of renewable fiber-based packaging, pulp, and paper products, since November 2014. Under Sutton's leadership, International Paper has focused on operational excellence, sustainability, and growth through strategic acquisitions and expansions.

Mark Sutton was born on May 20, 1961, in Louisiana, United States. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Louisiana State University in 1983.

Sutton began his career at International Paper in 1984 as an engineer at the company's Pineville, Louisiana mill. Over the years, he held various leadership positions within the company, including roles in manufacturing, sales, marketing, and management. Some of the key positions he held during his tenure at International Paper include the roles of Senior Vice President of Industrial Packaging, Vice President of Enterprise Lean Six Sigma, and Senior Vice President of Printing and Communications Papers in the Americas.

In January 2014, Mark Sutton was appointed as the President and Chief Operating Officer of International Paper. Later that year, in November, he assumed the role of CEO and was also elected to the company's board of directors. In 2015, he was named the Chairman of the board.

As the Chairman and CEO of International Paper, Sutton has led the company through a period of growth and transformation. He has overseen strategic acquisitions, such as the purchase of Weyerhaeuser's pulp business, and driven the company's focus on sustainability and innovation.
