Tony Xu

Tony Xu is an entrepreneur and the co-founder and CEO of DoorDash, a leading on-demand food delivery service platform in the United States. Under Tony's leadership, DoorDash has grown rapidly, becoming one of the largest food delivery services in the country and expanding internationally.

Tony Xu was born in 1985 in Nanjing, China, and emigrated to the United States with his family when he was five years old. He grew up in Champaign-Urbana, Illinois, where his mother worked as a waitress and his father as a laborer. Tony went on to attend the University of California, Berkeley, where he earned a bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering and Operations Research. He later received an MBA from Stanford Graduate School of Business.

In 2013, while at Stanford, Tony Xu co-founded DoorDash along with his classmates Evan Moore, Stanley Tang, and Andy Fang. The idea for DoorDash originated from the founders' desire to help small businesses compete with larger chains by offering delivery services. The platform connects customers with local restaurants and delivery drivers, or "Dashers," to facilitate food delivery efficiently.

Under Tony's leadership, DoorDash has grown exponentially, securing significant funding from investors and acquiring smaller food delivery services, such as Caviar. The company went public in December 2020 with a successful IPO, further solidifying its position in the food delivery market. DoorDash has also expanded its services beyond food delivery to include grocery and convenience store deliveries.

Tony Xu is known for his commitment to innovation, customer service, and supporting local businesses. He has been recognized for his entrepreneurial success and leadership, appearing on several lists of influential business leaders, such as Forbes' "30 Under 30" and Fortune's "40 Under 40."
